Mechanicsville, Maryland (April 11, 2016) – The 8th Annual Haltech Door Wars presented by Winegardner Auto Group returns to Maryland International Raceway™ (MDIR) this weekend, with the promise of being the biggest and most exciting format to date for the event with over $60,000 up for grabs. The event features Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) heads-up competition on the 1/4 mile, as well as the Mickey Thompson Outlaw 10.5 series presented by ATI Performance Products, Precision Turbo Radial vs. the World, Limited Drag Radial, Atomizer Racing Injectors X275, Ultra Street, and Nitrous X presented by Nitrous Express, Salvato Designs, and Ultimate Concepts Convertors in 1/8 mile competition. 8.50, 10.00, and 11.50 Index classes are also on the schedule for event.
The on-track action starts Friday, April 15 with pro class testing at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. as well as sportsman index testing from 11am-11pm. Saturday’s schedule includes pro class qualifying at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., and 9 p.m. as well as sportsman index qualifying sessions at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 8 p.m. Sunday will include one additional sportsman index qualifying session at 11 a.m., with pro class and sportsman class eliminations to follow at noon.
- Large Pro Mod Field: 24 racers are on the NEOPMA pro mod preliminary entry list looking to make the 16-car field in the season opening points event for the circuit. Participants expected include last year’s points champion Kevin McCurdy of Hamburg, Pennsylvania with his supercharged ’68 Camaro. Also on the list include NEOPMA circuit heavy-hitters Tommy Gray of Baltimore, Maryland; Mac McAdams of Harwood, Maryland; and Tyler Hard of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Also expected to do battle are IHRA and NHRA regulars Bill Lutz of Canal Winchester, Ohio; and Mike Janis of Lancaster, New York.
- First Visit to MDIR: Precision Turbo Radial vs. the World makes its historic first visit to the famed Budds Creek track that is home to several radial class record setting passes. Regional racers David DeMarco of Reading, Massachusetts, and Nate Pritchett of Libertytown, Maryland are expected to serve notice they intend on protecting home turf at the first-class go-around at MDIR. Also competing at MDIR for the first time will be Limited Drag Radial, and Nitrous X.
- Retain the Crown: 2015 Door Wars event winners Kevin McCurdy of Hamburg, Pennsylvania (pro mod), Michael Decker Jr of Baltimore, Maryland (Outlaw 10.5); Ziff Hudson of Concord, North Carolina (Drag Radial); Ron Rhodes of Townsend, Delaware (X275); and Lane Carey of Middletown, Delaware (Ultra Street) will all look to repeat their crowns in their respective classes in 2016.
- Several New Sponsors: Event title sponsor Haltech Engine Management Systems, along with presenting sponsor Winegardner Auto Group and class sponsors ATI Performance, Precision Turbo & Engine, Atomizer Racing Injectors, Nitrous Express, Salvato Designs, and Ultimate Concepts Convertors all got on board for the first time with the Door Wars event for 2016.“The 2016 Door Wars event looks to be a highly entertaining event for both races and fans,” said Rick Lindner, Director of Marketing and Public Relations of Maryland International Raceway. “It has the making of being the break-out year for the spring time event and to put it on the national map as one of the must-attend shows for fans and racers for years to come,” Lindner continued.
